A visit to Benagalbón

Today I went to Benagalbón for the first time. It's a tiny little village some kilometros from where I live, up in the mountains. I fell in love with that village, it reminds me so much of the villages in the Alpujarras, in the province of Granada.

Here are some pictures, so you can see for yourself, what "typical Spanish" really means...

I went there with some of my friends, representing the inmigrant asociation, and we were invited to the typical breakfast of the area, bread with tomatoes, dry cod and lots ando lots of olive oil. ;-) My friends just couldn't stand all that oil, but me, as a true Spaniard, I was happily soaking my piece of bread in the oil. Yummie!!! I LOOOVE olive oil... :-D

Moroccan beach - WW

This is our beach in Morocco, a day in June. I do miss Morocco a lot some days... Today is one of them...

Kiddies on vacation

My boys are on vacation for almost a week – Wednesday to Monday. God, give me patience!!! *lol*

We don’t plan to go anywhere special, since money isn’t on my side, but I’ll try to take them at least once to Malaga and once to one of the villages close to ours. There is so much to do that doesn’t cost a lot of money. Fortunately, my kids are used to living this way, they don’t ask for a lot of things, because they know I couldn’t buy it anyway, even if I wanted to. In a way I think that’s good for them, they have learned that if you want something you have to work hard to get it, things don’t fall out of the blue sky.

I think that’s exactly what’s wrong with kids and specially teens these days. They are so used to get whatever they point their fingers at, and life just doesn’t work that way... Life sucks some times, but it’s still life and it’s up to each and everyone of us to make the best of whatever we’ve got to have a good life.

Selling make up

Several friends of mine sell make up & perfume in their spare time. I think they are doing quite OK so I've decided to give it a try. I've registred for Avon and Oriflame, and I'm on the lookout for more companies. I really really really do need an extra income. Well actually, I'm in desperate need of an income, period, since I'm still unemployed... :-(

I'd like to have a go at Tupperware as well, but I don't really know enough people. I guess I'll have to make this a long term project...

Saturday 9 #2

Saturday 9: Don't Stand So Close to Me

1. Who would you like not to stand so close to you?
My ex husband *lol*

2. Which of the following aspects of your life would you think rates the highest: mind, body or spirit?
Oh, it's a tie, definitely...  Mind or spirit? I don't really know.. It's a tough question....

3. What is your favorite movie line?
Hakuna matata!!!! *lol*

4. What is your favorite movie title?
Pass... I don't know, there are so many movies I like. I really like Spanish movies like "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" and Hollywood productions like "You've got mail" (I know, it's a silly movie but it makes me feel good when I watch it) and "Mr & Mrs Smith" (for the same reasons). And as a Tolkien fan, I love love love the movies about the "Lord of the rings". As for favorite movie title as a name, my favorite is "Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?", "What did I do to deserve this?"

5. What is something that has happened to you that you would consider a miracle?
My oldest son, A, was born with severe meconium aspiration syndrome and was declared just about dead several times the first night. Him being alive is a true miracle!!!!!!!

6. What do you try to stay away from?
Smoking... Alcohol.... Rasists.... Annoying people... People stealing my energy...

7. What is it too late for?
To be a virgin...???? ;-)

8. Give someone credit for something and name it if you can.
Huh...? Oh boy, there are so many great people out there... It would take me at least a week just to mention all the wonderful persons... But since I have to chose just one, I chose Jesus Christ for teaching us how to live our lives and dying for all of us.

9. Would you rather be famous now & forgotten after you die or forgotten now & famous after you die, forever? And why?
Definitely I'd prefer to be famous now and forgotten after I'm gone, because if I'm gone I'm not going to enjoy the fame anyway, right?

I want... Wednesday # 1

I'm still looking for fun memes and since it's Wednesday I found this one - I Want Wednesday, a simple meme where you write about what you want that particular week/moment and answer a question. Seems like fun so here it goes!

What computer program do you want to learn?
Well, I'd like to get used to DreamWeaver. I know how it works but somehow I don't really manage to get the pages the way I want and end up writing the code by hand. And that is time consuming.... So a better grip on DW would definitely make me happy. :-D

What else do you want this week? Share it all.
Just the same thing as every week, every day - a job... I dont't actually care about what kind of a job anymore, as long as it's legal and permits me to pay my bills. But ok, if I'm allowed to chose - I'd looove to be in teaching of some kind. But working at the local burger would also do just fine. ;-)

Saturday 9 - # 1

Saturday 9: It's a Beautiful Morning
1. Are you a morning person?
No, not at all.  I'm definitely a night owl.

2. Tell us of a news story that truly shocked you.
The thing that really shocked me this morning was the hour when I woke up... 11.30!!!! Boy, I must have been really exhausted... Or maybe it was because it was raining and it was freezing cold outside of my cozy bed. I just wish I could have stayed in bed all day... *lol*

3. What was your very first job?
My first real job was in a restaurant doing the dishes. Not the most glamorous job but I earned quite a lot of money and I was happy.

4. What characteristics do you despise?
I can't stand people who only think about themselves, who feel they are worth more than everyone else because they are more intelligent, beautiful or successfull. And I really really do hate rasists...

5. To where would you retire?
Somewhere where it's warm all year round and I didn't have to worry about a thing.

6. Are you named after anyone?
Yes, unfortunately. My mom used to listen to a song while pregnant with me and insisted that I had to have the same name as the girl in the song.

7. How do you release anger?
I yell... Yup, I'm sorry to have to admit that but I'm the yelling kind of a girl... If I'm alone I listen to punk music or go for a walk.

8. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
No, not really. I laugh about a lot of things and I make jokes about almost everything but I'm not sarcastic.

9. What is your least favorite thing about yourself?
My bad temper... And my fat belly... I'm working on both...

Looking for memes

I feel so lost in cyberspace since I got back to blogging. I used to have several blogs, both in English and in other languages, but then dropped them all. I'm on the lookout for funny memes, since I'm really a meme adict. In case you know of a fun meme, feel free to tell me about it!

I just found one that seems fun - Saturday 9 and I'll start right now...

Walking home

I went to Málaga this morning to do an errand and since I finished early I decided I'd walk home. I don't know the distance but I guess it's about 10 or 11 km. Due to the rain and cold I haven't walked anything at all this week so a brisk walk home would do me great.

It was cold but at least it didn't rain although the sky was really grey and ugly. I listened to some great music and just kept on walking... It took me exactly 2 hours to get home. Oooh boy, was I tired or was I tireeeed when I arrived home? *lol*

These are some of the pictures I took:

The Spanish Catholic cathedral.

The center of Tangier. Lots of cheap restaurants in this area!

Café de Paris, a famous café in the center of the city, close to the harbour and the old zouq (market)

Cumbias

Like I wrote in a previous post, I just LOOOOOVE Peruvian cumbias. Since I try to lose some weight I dance at home almost every night, because it's a fun way to burn calories. *lol*

Here are some of my favorite groups, so you can listen and dance too.

Grupo Néctar, one of the best groups of the 90's. My favorite group, without doubth.Unfortunatelly all the members died in a car crash in Argentina.

Grupo 5. One of the most popular groups of today.

Grupo Kaliente. Cumbias with a touch of the djungle heat.

Hermanos Yaipen. A perfect song if you just broke up with someone, *lol*

Fireworks

Fireworks, for no particular reason at all..

Green tea

So here I am, having my first cup of green tea today. I've decided to try the magical powers of green tea. *lol* Green tea contains a lot of antioxidants and other stuff that's good for you, and it is said to "eat" the body fat. Boy, could I do with that?

I've decided to change the things I eat, when and how.... I LOOVE bread and although bread in itself doesn't make you fat, it does make your tummy huge if you're sensible and I think I am, so I've decided to avoid bread as much as I can. I couldn't live totally without bread, I'm Spanish and bread is such an important part of our cuisine, so a life without bread relly is out of the question. But I'll try to avoid and white rice for a couple of months, to see if my belly will look slimmer. My problem is that my belly is so huge, like I was pregnant... I'll also avoid coffe and black tea and drink green tea instead. I'll avoid sugar as much as posible too, which really isn't such a big issue since I usually only add a little sugar to my tea and I hardly ever have sweets or cookies.

So far I can't see any kind of aprovement, but I guess I'll have to give it at least a onth or so...
