WW - The beach in February

Monday, 7 February 2011

So proud of ME!

It's Monday morning, it's only 8 A.M. and I've been up and about for an hour already. I wanted to blog all day yesterday but every time I sat down to write something got in between, so I never had a chance to concentrate...

I know it's a bit late, it's technically Monday in my part of the world, but I'm going to do a Sunday stroll anyway. Hope that's okey, Vanessa? It' still Sunday in your part of the world...

I've been really busy last week. I got a really bad cold on Wednesday and got up on Thursday with my whole body aching. But this is really not the time to be sick, so I recurred to the magical powders sold at the farmacy *lol* I just love Frenadol! I don't know what it's called in the rest of the world but I guess you can get stuff like that everywhere nowadays. A few dosis and the cold just disappears on its' own... Well, it's not as easy as that, but almost... I spent the whole day on Friday on the coach sleeping and resting, I just got up to do my clases and then back to rest.

I was quite okey on Saturday so I got up early and did some cleaning. I had the kids clean their rooms too (those of you with teens and preteens know how easy that can be sometimes *lol*). Then we went to the supermarket far, far away. I really like to shop there, their prices are low and I feel like a get a lot for my money. The only problem is the distance. It takes us about 20 minutes to walk there, each direction, so it's not only good for the economy, it's also a great workout! *lol*

One of my best friends here has a son almost the same age as my kids so he came over on Saturday evening to play. The kids had a great time!!! When things got too noisy I took them out for a walk and then we went to the beach to kick some ball. It was such a lovely evening!!!

Yesterday was a really great day. We woke up early, went to the early mass and then the kids stayed at church for their weekly youth gathering. It's a pity so few kids these days go to church but at least they have a small group of teens going every Sunday. While the kids stayed at church I went down to the beach for a walk in the sun. It was just wonderful! I walked for half an hour and came home totally energized. I decided to chech my weight, which is something I haven't done in ages... I know I fell off the wagon big time and haven't been doing any exercise or even thought about what I eat so I was really surprised to see that I've lost 1,2 kilos!!! Wow!! I really do like that!!! *GO ME* Now I've "only" got another 8 kilos to go.... And since the weather is improving and the sun is coming back it will be a lot easier. So hopefully I'll reach my goal this year and be able to wear a bikini....

Taking a virtual stroll

I'm a bit fed up with my blog. I don't know why, because I actually love to blog and it's kind of my way to let go of steam when things get too hectic, but I've felt so drained out lately and maybe that's why I've only been twittering and not as much as I usually do. I don't know... I do need to boost my blog, that's for sure.... I've bookmarked some very interesting articles about reboosting your blog and thouhgt I'd read them on a rainy day, and well, today seems to be the perfect day...

Since I had such fun last time I joined Vanessas blog hop I've decided to join today as well. If you have a blog and don't know what to do today, do come along as well and let's go for a stroll...

It's SOOO COLD today!!! DS11 was supposed to participate in a bike race today but when we woke up and realized it's freezing cold we decided to stay at home all day. We're not even going to mass - Shame on me!! I know, today I'm a very bad Catholic but honestly, I just don't feel like leaving home... I'll just read the texts instead, snuggled up in my warm, cozy bed with a nice cup of coffee... So I'll guess that counts for only half a sin, right?

Music Monday: Pedacito de mi vida

This is an old Peruvian cumbia that reminds me of my favorite Peruvian TV series, "Néctar en el Cielo". Not that I've watched so many Peruvian series since I'm Spanish and not Peruvian, but that series really is one of the best I've ever seen.

In case someone would like to have a look at the series you can have a look here (it's in Spanish):

Sunday Seven – Episode 248

OK, it´s 9 AM and my DS2 woke me up half an hour ago... Today is going to be a GREAT day, I can feel that. So I've decided to do a quick meme just to get my brains working.... Here we go, it's time for SUNDAY SEVEN:

Name seven candle fragrances you think you’d most enjoy in your home.

OK, this is an easy one, since I loooooveeee scented candles. I have candles in the kitchen, living room, bathroom and of cause in my bedroom. My favorite fragrances are coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, pine tree, rose, lemon and chocolate, in no special order. As often as I can, I turn off the lights and light some candles instead. I guess I'm just a romantic after all. *lol*

SaturdaySix - Episode 329

While visiting the participants of Saturday 9 I came across this meme: SaturdaySix and I wanted to play. So here we go...

1. How many different spices are there in your kitchen?
Oh, I don't know but at least 20... I love using spices and since I've lived in different cultures I tend to cook things from all the places I've lived.

2. Of the spices you have on hand, which one is your favorite one to use?
I use a lot of ginger, different types of pepper, cinnamon, garlic, parsley, cilantro...

3. What liquid flavoring did you use most recently?
I don't use a lot of that, just plain vinegar and soy sause.

4. You decide to marinade a steak or chicken: do you use a powdered or liquid spice mix?
It depends on the time I have and what I'm making, but usually I make a semi powdered mix, like ginger, soy sauce, some pepper, a bit of chili powder...

5. Take the quiz: What Spice Are You?

You Are Cilantro

The bad news is that there are some people who can't stand you.

The good news is that most people love you more than anything else in the world.

You are distinct, unusual, fresh, and very controversial. And you wouldn't have it any other way.

6. Which spice — whether you have it in your home or not - do you consider the most “exotic”?
Not anyone really, because once you get used to use a spice, yopu don't really look at it as "exotic" anymore.

Thanks Patrick at Patrick's Place for a great meme!

Saturday 9: Bad Day

It's time to get back to the memes. One of my favorite memes is Saturday 9: Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

1. Is there anything that you tend to do to cheer up when you are having a bad day?
It depends on WHY I'm having a bad day... If it's something I can do something about, like missing my boyfriend or having had a discussion with a friend, then I pick up the phone and give them a call. If it's something I can't do anything about I listen to music I like (usually cumbias or punk rock), have some chocolate or crisps or maybe a beer or just go for a walk along the beach.

2.What’s the last card game you played, and with whom did you play?
Last time I played a card game was 3 weeks ago with "a special person" and we played a Peruvian game called "mano sucia", i.e. "dirty hand". It was fun!

3.What’s the last board game you played, and with whom did you play?
Last week in class. I played a classroom vocabulary Memory with my student and we had a good time. I really like to use games in my classes, it's a fun way to learn and kids learn better when they are having a good time.

4.What’s the last computer game you played, and with whom did you play?
I'm addicted to the farms at Facebook and I play almost every day. My fave game at the moment is FrontierVille.

5.Is there somewhere you’d like to visit but have not, and where is it?
Oooooh yeees, I'd LOVE to go to Peru. I know I will some day, hopefully quite soon. It has always been one of my dreams. The only problem is that maybe I like it so much over there that I don't want to go back to Europe. *lol*

6.Think of your favorite movie (or a movie you really like, if you can’t think of a favorite). Some people say that the reasons you love your favorite movie are related to what you value in romantic relationships. How is this true or untrue in your case?
Oh, what a tricky question! I don't have just one favorite movie, there are several I like, like "Casablanca", "You've got mail", both very romantic films, and then there are the Jackie Shan movies and the "Lord of the Ring" triology, which aren't any romantic at all. So, am I a romantic person or not? Well, I guess I am, but I didn't discover that until recently. And yes, I do like my partner to be romantic, very romantic actually. Maybe I'm looking for a romantic dragon? Maybe that's the man for me? *lol*

7.What physical attributes do you find the most attractive?
Oh my, I like men with interesting faces, like big crooked noses, big ears, expresive eyes... And of cause black hair, black eyes and dark skin. *lol* I don't like Caucasians. The man of my dreams is this georgous man. He's Gustavo Cerrón, he's a Peruvian actor and he's just about the most handsome man I've seen in my whole life.*drooling*

8.How many people live in your house? Tell us about them.
We're 3 in my house, by kids and I. My DS1, A, just turned 13, he's a very intelligent boy, who loves to be on his own, studying or listening to music. My DS2, G, will be 11 in a few weeks and he's very active, he loves to spend time with his friends, play football, play on the beach. I'm Blanca, I'm the owner of this blog. I'm 42 years old, Spanish, and I work as a teacher. I love to read, travel, learn languages, listen to music, spend time with my friends, chat and take long walks along the beach. And then there's Peluche, our Houdini hamster, who's about 2 months old and a real cutie.

9. Ever punch someone in the face?
Not that I know about. *lol* When I was younger I did get into a few fights but as far as I know I never did punch anyone in their face.

Well, time to visit some of the other participants of this meme. If you came here through this meme, please let me know, leaving a comment. TIA!

Although it's Sunday I wanted to play, so here's my Saturday 9:

Saturday 9: Just One Look

1. How vein are you about how you look?
Oh, nowadays I'm very very concious about how I look. 2 years ago I couldn´t have cared less, but since then my life has changed completely and nowadays I know I'm worth feeling great about myself. So yes, I'm quite vein.

2. When you were little what was your favorite TV show?
Scooby Dooh, does that count? Or The Little House on the Prairie ... I just loved that series!!!!

3. If someone was going to make a movie or TV show about your life, who would play you and why?
I don´t know..... I can't think of anyone who looks like me...

4. Who is your favorite Major League Baseball team? How about your favorite player?
Duuuh?!? I don't even like baseball, I think it's a boring sport...

5. What is your favorite baseball-related movie?
I can't even think about any baseball-related movies I´ve watched... Nope, defintely not my cup of tea...

6. What is one lesson you have learned in the past year?
When everything is darkness around you and you feel totally alone, someone will always appear with a light, as long as you leave a  window open...

7. Tell us about one of your childhood memories.
My mom used to say I was an Inca princess, because of my black hair and really dark brown eyes, and that I would end up marrying an Inca prince. Well, who knows... *lol* Actually, I did look a bit like a native Inca when I was about 5 years old, but then both my hair colour and my eyes changed and now my hair is brown and my eyes are brown, yellow and green. *lol* I do think that Andine men are really handsome though....

8. How do you handle sticky situations? Do you have a method? If so, what is it?
I say a prayer and just breath deep for a few minutes and off I go.

9. Do you think people talk about you behind your back?
I'm sure they do and I don't really care. If people have nothing better to do, let them talk!

More fun questions next week!!!

Friday Question #105

Looking around on the net, I found this meme: Friday Questions

Are you interesting in your ancestry? Have you done any research on it? What tools do you use?

Yes, I´m really interested in knowing who my ancestors were. I´m sure I could learn a lot about life from that. I haven´t really done any research but relatives on my mothers side managed to go back about 150 years I think. The problems I have is that I have relatives in several countries and that makes research quite complicated...

I hope I´ll have time & money some day in the future to be able to do some serious research on my family.

Saturday 9: Gimme Three Steps

1. Are you the type of person who jumps into new ventures or do you prefer baby steps?
I´m definitely the kind of person who just jumps right in, at times without even thinking about what I´m doing...

2. Who do you feel believes in you the most?
God.. *lol* And myself, of cause.

3. When was the last time you were on a stage?
A long long time ago.... :-( Once upon a time I dreamed about becoming an actress.

4. Tell us about the worst boss you ever had.
I haven´t really had a baaaad boss. I try to get along with most people. Well, once I worked one weekend at a Chinese restaurant and my female boss was a real bitch because she screamed at me in Chinese all the time and wanted me to know what to do....

5. If the NCAA Men's or Women's Final Four basketball tournament was played in your hometown arena or within easy driving distance from where you live, would you try to attend one the three games?
*lol* Say what..? No, actually, I´m not into going to games..

6. Of all the clothes you own, what do you feel most comfortable wearing, and why?
My jeans, the first pair I bought after returning to Spain. I love them because they look good on me and because it was the first thing I was able to buy here.

On Oprahs... And I´d be a famous Spanish writer whose latest novel just became a best seller in the US. ;-)

Nope, I´m not Irish so no St. Patrick´s here... But I´d love to have green beer some day...

9. If a leprechaun told you that you could have any amount of money from his pot of gold but it had to be a specified amount for a specified item, how much would you ask for and what would it be for?
I´d ask for 10.000 euros so I could pay back what I owe and be able to start something of my own...

Your Smiling Face - Saturday 9 #2

I consider myself a happy and positive person with a strange sense of humor. Throughout life I´ve been to hell and back several times so I really do know the dark sides of life, and I thank God every day for still being alive and being able to laugh about it. I seldom cry, instead I make jokes about the situation. I guess people think I´m a bit crazy and maybe too funny for my own good, but hey, they haven´t walked in my shoes so I don´t really care. Life is so short, you´d better try to enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts. ;-)

Saturday 9: Your Smiling Face

1. No matter what's going on in your life, what always makes you smile?
My wonderful girl friends on MSN, my kids making jokes, reading some very special e-mails, Peruvian cumbias, a walk along the beach... Simple things really...

2. What's the biggest lie you've ever told?
I don´t know, I hardly ever lie....

3. Do you hold a grudge?
Nooo, I have such a bad memory. *lol* I get upset and angry really quickly, shout for a few minutes, let go of the steam and then I just don´t remember why on Earth I was yelling...

4. What is the worst job you've ever had?
I worked in a chocolate factory for 6 months. It was boooooring! But I got really really good friends and I´m really thankful for that. One of them was an ex-prostitute from Thailand who taught me so much about love & life and that you can´t really judge nobody because you never know what goes on inside of his/her head and why he/she is doing whatever he/she is doing. I also made friends with a girl from Bolivia who introduced me to her friends and the Andine culture. They taught me to dance the cumbia. I´ve been hooked on Andine culture ever since.

5. What would be your dream job?
Teaching Spanish in Peru. *lol* Or being a famous writer and be able to travel around the world.

6. What is the happiest event you've experienced?
The birth of my kids. They were both sad moments as well, specially the birth of my oldest son. He was born with very severe meconium aspiration sindrome and the first thing the doctor told me was that he was not going to survive so I´d better not get attached to him. That´s definitely NOT what you want to hear...

7. What is the saddest thing you've experienced?
Many many things... My granny passing away... She was like my mother to me and I still mis her terribly! My oldest son being ill for several years. My youngest son also being ill for several years...

8. Do you tend to exaggerate or underestimate?
*rotflao* I´m Spanish, very very Spanish... And we´re famous for exaggerating.. Never ever trust a Spaniard, it´s not that we´re lying, we just tend to exaggerate a bit too much. *lol*

9. List the cars that you have owned. Give us just a few words about each one.
I don´t even have a driver´s license so nooo, no cars here....

1. Who would you like not to stand so close to you?
My ex husband *lol*

3. What is your favorite movie line?
Hakuna matata!!!! *lol*

4. What is your favorite movie title?
Pass... I don't know, there are so many movies I like. I really like Spanish movies like "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" and Hollywood productions like "You've got mail" (I know, it's a silly movie but it makes me feel good when I watch it) and "Mr & Mrs Smith" (for the same reasons). And as a Tolkien fan, I love love love the movies about the "Lord of the rings". As for favorite movie title as a name, my favorite is "Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?", "What did I do to deserve this?"

5. What is something that has happened to you that you would consider a miracle?
My oldest son, A, was born with severe meconium aspiration syndrome and was declared just about dead several times the first night. Him being alive is a true miracle!!!!!!!

6. What do you try to stay away from?
Smoking... Alcohol.... Rasists.... Annoying people... People stealing my energy...

7. What is it too late for?
To be a virgin...???? ;-)

8. Give someone credit for something and name it if you can.
Huh...? Oh boy, there are so many great people out there... It would take me at least a week just to mention all the wonderful persons... But since I have to chose just one, I chose Jesus Christ for teaching us how to live our lives and dying for all of us.

9. Would you rather be famous now & forgotten after you die or forgotten now & famous after you die, forever? And why?
Definitely I'd prefer to be famous now and forgotten after I'm gone, because if I'm gone I'm not going to enjoy the fame anyway, right?

Come join this meme and have some fun on Saturdays!

I want... Wednesday # 1

I'm still looking for fun memes and since it's Wednesday I found this one - I Want Wednesday, a simple meme where you write about what you want that particular week/moment and answer a question. Seems like fun so here it goes!

What computer program do you want to learn?
Well, I'd like to get used to DreamWeaver. I know how it works but somehow I don't really manage to get the pages the way I want and end up writing the code by hand. And that is time consuming.... So a better grip on DW would definitely make me happy. :-D

What else do you want this week? Share it all.
Just the same thing as every week, every day - a job... I dont't actually care about what kind of a job anymore, as long as it's legal and permits me to pay my bills. But ok, if I'm allowed to chose - I'd looove to be in teaching of some kind. But working at the local burger would also do just fine. ;-)

Looking for memes

I feel so lost in cyberspace since I got back to blogging. I used to have several blogs, both in English and in other languages, but then dropped them all. I'm on the lookout for funny memes, since I'm really a meme adict. In case you know of a fun meme, feel free to tell me about it!

I just found one that seems fun - Saturday 9 and I'll start right now...
