Dream Big For Africa

I'm sure you all have heard of Malaria, since it's one of the most famous diseases of the African continent. But do you know what it really is? This is some information I found at MedLinePlus:

Malaria is a parasitic disease that involves high fevers, shaking chills, flu-like symptoms, and anemia.

Malaria is caused by a parasite that is passed from one human to another by the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. Malaria can also be transmitted from a mother to her unborn baby (congenitally) and by blood transfusions. After infection, the parasites (called sporozoites) travel through the bloodstream to the liver, where they mature and release another form, the merozoites. The parasites enter the bloodstream and infect red blood cells. The parasites multiply inside the red blood cells, which then break open within 48 to 72 hours, infecting more red blood cells. The first symptoms usually occur 10 days to 4 weeks after infection, though they can appear as early as 8 days or as long as a year after infection. The symptoms occur in cycles of 48 to 72 hours.

Malaria, especially Falciparum malaria, is a medical emergency that requires a hospital stay. Chloroquine is often used as an anti-malarial medication. However, chloroquine-resistant infections are common in some parts of the world. Medical care, including fluids through a vein (IV) and other medications and breathing (respiratory) support may be needed.

Malaria kills a child every minute in Africa. You can make a difference and it doesn't take mucho of an effort. All you have to do is to text 85944 to donate $10 to @MalariaNoMore and you'll be entered to win a trip to Africa!!!! If you think this is as important as I do, please join Malaria No More and help the children in Africa have a future.

Mom Bloggers for Social Good

Yey! It's here, the opening day for a new project for mom bloggers - the Mom Bloggers for Social Good. When I first read about it I inmediately felt an urge to participate, because this is just what I've been looking for for a very long time. I'm thrilled to be one of the founding members of this project and I hope we can do a lot of good for many people.

The main areas this network will work with are: Children, Education, Maternal Health, Fair Trade, Workers’ Rights, Environment and Climate, Communicable Disease, Non-Communicable Disease, Access to Clean Water and Sanitation, Food Security, Malaria and Tuberculosis, HIV / AIDS, and Women and Girls. I really feel a lot for most of these areas and I can't wait to help out! Many of these areas touch me personally, so I'm sure I have a lot to share with all of you.

Please follow this network on Facebook and Twitter (#socialgoodmoms).

Bloggers Unite

Those of you who know me, know that I'm a person with very strong felings towards the weak in society. I think there are too many people suffering in this world and most of us in the so called "civilized world" don't do nothing about that.

Well, apart from participating in Earth Day and local events where I live, I`ve decided to become more serious about these issues on my blog. I just found a place called Bloggers Unite and I'm going to participate in a series of events there.

These are the events I'm participating in so far:

So tired!

This week has been really busy, at least so far. I hope I can get plenty of rest this weekend, I really need that. On Monday morning I found about a workshop that was starting the same day and since I had a posibility to do participate I went ahead. So I spent Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings in class, studying how to start your own business. It was a really good workshop and I'm more determined than ever to start my own company once I finish my studies.

My studies are going ok. I passed my first exam and currenty I'm studying Chapter 2. Before I started studying I thought I could do a chapter a week, but then I discovered that this chapter has 200 pages. No way I can study 200 pages in just a few days. :-( I'm going really slow but I'm sure I'll get there, eventually.

On Wednesday evening I went to another workshop, about how to take care of eldery people in their homes. I've been participating in this workshop for several months now, it's twice a month. Just one more time and I'll get my certificate. Another paper to add to my Curriculum Vitae.

I still don't have a contract but my bosses and I have decided that I'll work Monday and Friday evening and Wednesday morning, as well as one hour every Thursday evening.

As you can see I've hardly spent any time at home this week... I'm exhausted!!! My plans for this weekend is to relax, read and get plenty of sleep...

Earth Hour is HERE!

In a few minutes it`s time for Earth Hour here in Spain. We are soooo prepared, my kids and I. I`m going to make dinner by the candles, sooo romantic! *lol* I can cook, since our stove is a gas stove. We made pop corn and we`re going to play dominĂ³... It´s going to be so much fun!!!

Well, I´d better turn off the puter and all the other lights and electric devices, only a few minutes left...

Earth Hour

Next Saturday, the 27th of March, is Earth Hour Day. My kids and I are participating for the third year and we're really looking forward to that day. We're already preparing for the day, buying candles and thinking about ways to use less electricity and alternative ways to produce electricity. I think it's about time we all got a bit more concious about our poor planet, because if we don't, what will there be left for our grandchildren???? And participating is SOOOO easy!!! Just turn off all your lights and electrical devices for one hour, the Earth Hour. This hour begins at 8.30 P.M. and ends at 9.30 P.M. no matter what time zone you're in. It's as simple as that!!!! Take a look at the international site to see if your country has joined the "darkness". *lol*

The Earth Hour is organized by WWF and this is what they say about Earth Hour on their official site:

March 27 2010
On this day at 8:30pm you will be able to simply, yet powerfully, demonstrate your Vote for Earth.
What is Earth Hour?
It is the single biggest mass-climate action ever seen.

What does it involve?
Simply turning off your lights for 1 hour. Earth's hour.

Just register at The Earth Hour site and join the fun!

And while you're doing something great for our planet, why don't you have some fun as well? My kids and I play games by the candles and have snacks and really really have a great time!
